The Aluminum Association of America initially estimated that aluminum demand in the United States and Canada (i.e., shipments from domestic producers plus imports) will reach 14.056 billion pounds in the first half of 2024, up 5.2% from 13.365 billion pounds in the first half of 2023. Previously, in 2023, the North American aluminum industry was affected by destocking and a decline in imports (down about 25%), resulting in weak overall demand.

“2024 continues to be a strong year for aluminum demand,” said Charles Johnson, president and CEO of the Aluminum Association. “Customers and end consumers have made it clear that they want sustainable, recyclable materials like aluminum. Our members are investing in production in the U.S. to help meet this demand now and in the future.”
